tofu!
March 1, 2008
I should know by now, really, that coffee in the evening is never a good thing. Especially ones with the equivalent of three shots of espresso in them. Tends to keep me a little awake and wired. Well, that and doing nothing with my evenings. I think I had aspirations to do something this evening. Well, I did set out to make this nice Thai peanut stir-fry thing. I made the regrettable decision of choosing tofu for the first time. I really.really.really. should’ve stuck with vegetables alone. Here’s a photobooth pic of my little meal, shortly before almost dumping the contents of the bowl on my laptop. Got a nice pic of my face doing that too, thank goodness for delete. See the nice little crushed peanuts? And the icky tofu?? Now, what can I do with well…a lot of leftover tofu?
I remember trying it in grade four or around there, in school. I had one of those teachers that was probably seen as worldly and exotic (which now, I realize, is so not the case) and it wasn’t horrible I think, but just opening the package I knew this could go either way. I peeled back the plastic and was immediately taken back to senior 4 biology. I could almost see the small insect we were meant to dissect. Yes, to me, tofu smells of formaldehyde. Doesn’t taste much better, I imagine. The noodles, the asparagus, the bean sprouts, all very lush, very nice. But, ugh, the tofu. It looked enough like chicken to have me almost convinced I wanted to take another bite, but then oh god. A mistake, every time. I think peanut butter will stay my ‘other meat’…I think I’m off the bean burgers I made the other week too. Why does it all have to be mushy!!! I think it’s really easy to be a junk food vegetarian, I could eat crisps and veg all day, but my health may become something to be concerned about.
Oh, and on another off beat note, I haven’t used shampoo in over a week. (I’m going “no-poo”, if you will) I think these little weird things I keep doing are attempts to either make my life more interesting or become more of myself. Not too sure. But it’s going super well, it’s not like I stopped washing or anything, I’ve used conditioner alone once, baking soda, and then apple cider vinegar rinses twice now (not over top each other, eek), and my hair looks great, if I can say so. Oh, by the way, apple cider vinegar = the worst smelling vinegar. Ew, I’d way rather soak my head in white vinegar even if it’d be worse for my hair. I realize ACV is made from fermenting apples, but does it have to smell of rotting fruit? And, unfortunately, it smells of cider, which in its actually form, smells of sick to me because of nights at the Union drinking snakebite… yeah, so. Until my hair dried last night, I thought my hair smelt of sick. Yum. And then when I wet my hair this morning, it smelt of it again. Ugh, the things I do…

I went the whole of 2004 without washing my hair once with shampoo. I simply used water. It was shiny and full of volume. No one was any the wiser until I told them, and they were always surprised. There was no smell at all

i would go it water alone, but my poor hair requires products, and i go swimming sometimes, so i know it would be a right mess if i left it to water. i think i may just have to endure the horrible smell once a week :S…it goes away when it’s dry though. go me! it’s been two weeks now!
